The Women’s Board of Pittsburgh is hosting this fundraising event to support Backpack for Hunger.
Backpack for Hunger, started in 2015, is dedicated to addressing the widespread problem of childhood hunger by bridging the weekend hunger gap for children when they are not in school. The program provides free weekend care bags of food to children facing food insecurity in grades kindergarten through twelve, including the over 800 children who qualify for the weekday Free and Reduced Lunch Program, in the Pittsburgh communities of Sharpsburg, Blawnox, Indiana and O’Hara Townships, Aspinwall and Fox Chapel.
Women’s Board of Pittsburgh raises funds to benefit non-profit organizations in the Pittsburgh area, in fulfillment of its mission to support the health and development of local children. An organization is selected each year to be the recipient of the proceeds raised during the annual January luncheon. The Board has solicited financial sponsorship and contribution from local organizations over the past 28 years, resulting in generous support of over $800 K.
This year’s benefit, emceed by Andrew Stockey of WTAE, features a cooking demonstration by Chef Austin Dorn, Executive Chef of the Fluted Mushroom, followed by a delicious lunch of the dishes he’s prepared. Fashions from Carabella of Oakmont will be modeled throughout the luncheon and fabulous items will be available to bid on in teacup, grand raffle, and other auctions.
