Preventing Weekend Hunger for Fox Chapel Area Children

Developed by Tailored Marketing, Inc. 2019

Imagine having lunch on Friday and then not having anything to eat again until Monday.

That is what may be happening to children right here in our own community. In the Fox Chapel area, approximately 745 students are on the free and reduced lunch program. Some families in our community have all they need and more while other families have very, very little. In fact, the Fox Chapel Area School District has the greatest economic disparity of any district in Pennsylvania. We know that children can have a free or reduced price lunch at school during the week; but, what about the weekends?

With this in mind, the Backpack for Hunger program began to provide children with care bags of food on the weekends and during the summer when school is not in session. Food is necessary to support the health, development and achievement of every child. No child should go a weekend without food.
