Preventing Weekend Hunger for Fox Chapel Area Children

The Backpack for Hunger program is entirely volunteer-driven. Many people come together to do the extensive work of packing the food bags for the children. In addition, we are dependent on generous donations of food and funds to continue this work. We receive cash, gift cards and food donations, which make it all possible.

Our food items are purchased from many different sources to ensure we are getting the lowest prices possible to keep our costs down. We shop at local grocery stores, discount warehouse stores and online discount stores to stretch our dollars.

On designated days, volunteers deliver the bags to the schools. As Backpack for Hunger is an anonymous program, guidance counselors, nurses, and staff distribute the bags to the students and only the designated school personnel know the recipients.
